Welcome

Today on the Eastern Shore of Nova Scotia, Canada, lies the small village of Tangier.  In 1861 this was a busy place as gold had been found the previous spring.  Twice weekly ferries from Halifax brought in prospectors and there were also royal visitors, Prince Napoléon and Princess Clotilde of France and Prince Alfred of England, Queen Victoria’s second son.

This history is almost lost and the Tangier Gold Mines Historical Society seeks:

  • to research the history of the Tangier area of Halifax Regional Municipality and more specifically the gold discoveries and mining activities and
  • to to promote the heritage of the communities involved
